Project Background
The Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) guides the development of the Bismarck-Mandan area’s multimodal transportation system over the next 20+ years. The MTP is updated by the Bismarck-Mandan Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) once every five years. Regular updates allow the MPO and its partner jurisdictions to continually reassess regional transportation goals and system needs. The MTP is an opportunity for the area to consider how the multimodal transportation system could look and function in the future.
Throughout the plan development process, the project team will:
Compile a list of transportation needs facing the Bismarck-Mandan area.
Develop feasible multimodal solutions to address these needs.
Review potential transportation solutions alongside community input.
Create an implementation plan for the Bismarck-Mandan Area MPO.

The Bismarck-Mandan Area MPO will host a booth at Mandan’s annual Art in the Park event on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. At the booth, the MPO will provide an update on Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) project and gather resident input on preliminary recommendations. Your input will aid in refining recommendations that will be provided in the final report. The MTP will analyze current transportation conditions, forecast future scenarios, and provide recommendations to shape the future of transportation in the Bismarck-Mandan area.
